Dance Proms

July 2014

We are delighted that for the forth year running we have been selected as one of the acts for the Dance Proms to be performed on stage at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 2nd November 2014.

This year we will be performing two groups, Catch Me and Masquerade.

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), and the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), have joined forces with the Royal Albert Hall for the Dance Proms, a national celebration of dance, dancers and dance teachers.

Gala in honor of Wendy Thomas

October 2013

It is with enormous pride that we can announce that we achieved our target of £10,0000 donation to our Community McMillan nurses, in honour of our beloved Wendy Thomas.

Everyone who contributed to the Gala knows just how special it was and our heartfelt thanks goes to each and every one of you.

Gala in honor of Wendy Thomas

June 2013

The 28th September is a very special day of performances at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre in Woking where we will be paying tribute to our beloved friend and tutu maker extraordinaire Wendy Thomas.

We are hoping to raise £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support so please do come along and show your support. You will be able to see the artistry and flair that went into her costume design and making and some of the choreography she so brilliantly designed for.

We are already assured of guest performances from former students who are now professional dancers and it promises to be a wonderful day.

Laurretta to dance Black Swan

April 2013

Past student of the school, Laurretta Summerscales, is to dance Odette/Odille in Swan Lake with the English National Ballet. She will be performing two matinee performances on Thursday 20th June and Saturday 22nd June at the Royal Albert Hall.

Laurretta trained with the school from the age of three to sixteen, and won Young Dancer of the Year at the 2007 All England Dance Festival.

After leaving the school in 2007 Laurretta went on to the English National Ballet school where she stayed for only two years, after which she was plucked out of the school in her second year to join the ENB Company at the age of 18.

Invitation to the Ballet Charity Donations

November 2012

Following our school production at the end of July we are delighted that our beautiful dancers raised over £2000 for various charities.

A cheque for £1000 to Northern Ballet was presented to David Nixon by Miss Sue and Niamh Robinson at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking.

Also in attendance were Hannah Bateman, former student of the school and First Soloist with Northern Ballet and Kenneth Tindall, Premier Dancer with Northern Ballet.

All England Festival of Dance

August 2011

Congratulations to Lara Lucano, runner up Young Dancer of the Year at the All England Festival of Dance 2011

The year ended on a very high note for Lara Lucano, recently turned 16. Dancing in the All England Dance competition, she was awarded First Place in two individual solos, and her stylized ballet was so loved by the adjudicators she was asked to perform it as the opening to the Finals Gala at the Peacock Theatre in London on Sunday.

She was also selected to be one of the 6 dancers to compete for the title of Young Dancer of the Year and was chosen as the Runner Up. Lara was presented with the Award by Dame Beryl Grey, and it includes £350.00 to further her studies in Classical Ballet when she goes off to the Millennium School, a vocational school based in London.

We are also very proud of the fact that the students achieved places in every age group in ballet solos, from under 8 to under 21 years of age. Perhaps most exciting is the Classical Ballet Groups won first place in all four categories, under 9, under 12, under 15 and under 21, with two of the groups being selected to perform at the Gala.

Also recognized for her high standard of dancing was Olivia Leitch, age 13, who was awarded £250 for the most outstanding solo ballet performance.

Dance Proms

July 2011

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), and the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), have joined forces with the Royal Albert Hall to launch the Dance Proms, a national celebration of dance, dancers and dance teachers.

We are delighted that Tubby the Tuba has been selected as one of the twenty five acts for the first Dance Proms to be performed on stage at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 13 November 2011.

Amy joins Evita

June 2011

Past student of the school, Amy Punter has joined the touring cast of Evita performing the role of Evita’s Sister, and she is also dance captain.

Amy trained with the school from the age of nine to eighteen, and went on to complete her training at Arts Educational School, London. Before the end of her final year she was signed by an agent and within two weeks she was offered her first professional contract with Bill Kenwright’s touring Evita.

So far she has been to Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rhyl, Liverpool and Bristol. Next stop will be Germany for five weeks where she hopes her A Level German will assist in briefing the local children who join the cast at each venue!

Her nearest venue to home will be week commencing 5th September in Southampton.

Dance for Japan

May 2011

Dance for Japan is a 12-hour danceathon in support of the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

Organised by former student Julia Davies, the event will consist of dance classes, workshops and performance for all ages and abilities.

Classes will range from ballet to street dance, with performances throughout the day. Provisionally announced performers and teachers include Wayne Sleep, Ballet Black, New Adventures, English National Ballet and National Youth Ballet.

Ballet Encore Charity Donations

April 2011

Following our school production at the end of July we are delighted that our beautiful dancers raised over £4000 for various charities.

Donations at the theatre raised over £600 for the Woking Hospice. After calculating the production finances and working out expenses, the school have kindly decided to donate a further £1000 to this local and commendable charity.

The cheque to Woking Hospice was presented by dancers Katie Valentine, Imogen Alvares and Olivia Leitch.

Children's Trust Ball

March 2011

The school were delighted to be asked to perform for the Children's Trust Ball at Banqueting Hall, Westminster.

The Children's Trust provides care, education, therapy and rehabilitation to children with multiple disabilities, complex health needs and acquired brain injury.

The evening was a great success, and the performance was thoroughly enjoyed by all that attended.

Richmond Festival of Dance

February 2011

Sophie Morgan, Lauren Hurst, Sophie Lewis and Georgina Woodward were among the eight finalists selected to dance in the Young Dancer of the Year Competition at the end of the Richmond Festival.

We were delighted when the adjudicator, Jennifer Hayley, announced Sophie Morgan as the winner. She wins a trophy, £200 prize money, a prize sponsored by 4Dance in Walton on Thames and will receive her trophy from the Mayor of Richmond Upon Thames when she dances in the Festival Concert in May.

Runner up was Sophie Lewis.

Autumn update

November 2010

Congratulations to Miss Jade on being awarded her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from the Royal Academy of Dance.

Following the visit of the Director of the English National Ballet Miss Sue is proud to provide two of this seasons Clara and Fritz in their new production of The Nutcracker, Emma Hunter and Cameron Helsby. The Director also chose Imogen Alvares and Lucy Wood to be learning the role from this month with a view to performing it next season.

Over 600 pupils entered the Angelina Ballerina competition this year, and all five of our entrants were included in the 15 young dancers who were called to dance in front of the judges at the finals at English Ballet Headquarters in London on 3rd November.

Laurretta to dance Queen of the Willis

April 2010

Past student of the school, Laurretta Summerscales, is to dance Queen of the Willis with the English National Ballet on the Saturday matinee performance at the Coliseum, London.

Laurretta trained with the school from the age of three to sixteen, and won Young Dancer of the Year at the 2007 All England Dance Festival.

After leaving the school in 2007 Laurretta went on to the English National Ballet school where she stayed for only two years, after which she was plucked out of the school in her second year to join the ENB Company at the age of 18.

Richmond Festival of Dance

February 2010

Natalie Dodd, Hannah Punter, Emma Riggs, Katie Rogers and Georgina Woodward were among the ten finalists selected to dance in the Young Dancer of the Year Competition at the end of the Richmond Festival (Charlotte Evans was also selected but was unable to dance).

We were delighted when the adjudicator, Jurek Sroka, announced Katie Rogers as the winner. She won a trophy, £200 prize money and a prize sponsored by 4Dance in Walton on Thames and will receive her trophy from the Mayor of Richmond Upon Thames when she dances in the Festival Concert in May.

In all 90 medals were won by our dancers. Congratulations to all our dancers for representing the school so well.

Angelina Ballerina

January 2010

Five hundred students from all over the UK entered the ‘Angelina Ballerina’ competition in conjunction with the Critics Circle National Dance Awards.

Of the twenty five finalists all five entrants from the school were selected to dance in the final, and Lucy Wood went on to win the converted award.

Darcey Bussell

November 2009

We were delighted to be asked to launch Darcey Bussell’s range of ballet clothing and accessories at an event at the headquarters of the Royal Academy of Dance.

British Ballet Organization

September 2009

Pupils were invited to demonstrate at the British Ballet Organisation congress in London and received many compliments from the distinguished faculty.

Kirov Ballet

July/August 2009

The school provided dancers for the Kirov Ballet at the Royal Opera House, performing in 'Sleeping Beauty' and the opera 'Rheingold'.

Ellen Kent Opera

June 2009

The school provided dancers for Ellen Kent Opera International performing in 'Aida', 'Turandot' and 'Carmen' at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking and the Dorking Halls.

Richmond Festival of Dance

February 2009

Outstanding results were obtained in the various festivals with Lara Lucano winning the Richmond Upon Thames Festival Young Dancer of the Year. She will receive her cup, cash prize and perform before the Mayor in Richmond in May.

Annabel Pearce received a special commendation. Congratulations to both girls and also to Charlotte Evans, Saori Okuno and Hannah Punter who were also amongst the eleven finalists in a final which the adjudicator said was of a very high standard indeed.

The school also won the Teachers Cup for the highest aggregate marks at both Kingston and Richmond Festivals.

Fonteyn Nureyev Competition

April 2008

The prestigious Fonteyn Nureyev Competition was held at the Bloomsbury Theatre on the 13th April. Remarkably our school had three finalists in this national competition.

Congratulations to Sophie Lewis on winning the Level 1 prize and Charlotte Evans on being placed second in Level 2.

Miss Sue would like to place on record how proud she was of Sophie, Charlotte and Lauren for representing the school so magnificently.

Richmond Festival of Dance

February 2008

Outstanding results were obtained in the various festivals with Reade Kiefer winning the Richmond Upon Thames Festival Young Dancer of the Year. She will receive her cash prize and perform before the Mayor in May. Runner up was Michelle Breese. Congratulation to both girls.

Congratulations to Lara Lucano who was awarded a scholarship to the 2009 Easter course in Dulwich, and to Reade Kiefer for the Helen Robinson Scholarship to the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars this summer awarded by the Ballet Circle. We are grateful for the sponsorship.
